Found Poem
A Blaze of Heat
I was three years old
living in a trailer park,
Wearing my pink dress.
Stirring the hot dogs,
I could hear mom in the next room.
I felt a blaze of heat.
My dress was on fire.
Frozen with fear
I watched the yellow white flames.
The flames leaped up
reaching my face.
I screamed.
I shrieked.
Still swatting at the fire,
mom ran into the room.
When we got to the hospital
nurses cut off my pink dress.
They laid me on a metal bed
piled with ice cubes
some over my body.
I was lucky to be alive.
